Dry Ingredients
1 3/4 cups All-purpose flour, sifted
1/4 tsp Baking powder, double acting
1 tsp Baking soda
1 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp Cloves, ground
1 1/3 cups Sugar
1/2 cup Chocolate morsels
Wet Ingredients
1/3 cup Shortening, butter-flavored, soft
2 Eggs
1 cup Canned pumpkin
1/3 cup Milk
1/2 tsp Vanilla

  1. Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Sift together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and ground cloves.
  3. Beat sugar, shortening, and eggs in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  4. Add and beat in pumpkin.
  5. Add sifted dry ingredients in 3 additions alternately with milk. Do not overbeat between each addition.
  6. Fold in chocolate morsels.
  7. Pour batter in greased pan and bake about 1 hour or until bread test comes back clean.
